No More “little sins…”
By Joe Kirby, Evangelist at Off The Kirb Ministries
See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.” - Genesis 19:20 (NKJV)
You know the story well. God’s angels urge Lot and his family to flee from Sodom and Gomorrah because the Lord is going to destroy the city with fire and brimstone, but what does Lot do? He lingers. He stays in Sin City, until the angels must physically drag him and his family out of danger, warning him to run to the mountains for safety. But Lot had a better idea, instead of running a million miles away from Sodom “why can’t we go and settle in that tiny, little, harmless city called Zoar? It’s only a stones throw away from where we used to live and after all no one likes change.”
It’s easy to be comfortable in sin isn’t it, our lifestyle for years has revolved around this besetting sin. Our habits, routines and affections might be like Lot attached to a place, a situation or even a person. And yet instead of totally denouncing sin and getting as far away from the evil that God hates. We trade on the mercy of The Lord and say “is it really that bad?” Friends I don’t know what compromise looks like in your life. Perhaps social media is the gateway drug into your internet addiction, perhaps some of your friends lead you into sin or maybe there’s a place you know that is just plain bad for your soul. Whatever the “little one” is in your life, don’t hang around it any longer obey God and run to the mountain.
